About Fornalutx

Fornalutx is located in the center of the Tramuntana mountains, nestled between Sóller and Puig Mayor. The municipality has been named the most beautiful town in Spain several times. On the central square, Placa D’ Espanya, and Carrer Arbona-Colom, there are numerous lovely cafés and restaurants where you can enjoy Mallorcan cuisine as well as other dishes.

During the corona pandemic, the village had an incidence of “0”. The mayor was asked why this was the case and he simply replied, “because we are so close to the Lord God here”. If you visit or spend a vacation in the village, you will see that this statement is very true

The stone buildings with their traditional tiled roofs combine with the scent of the surrounding orange and lemon groves to create a traditional rustic charm.

The history of Fornalutx

The municipality of Fornalutx is located in the northwest of Mallorca and has been recognized for its special efforts in nature conservation since the 1980s.

Fornalutx was an Arab farmstead over 1,000 years ago. It began to take on its present form in the 13th century with the Catalan conquests. The Gothic church in Fornalutx was built in 1639.

The effort to preserve its traditional appearance, from the cobbled streets to the traditional façades, has created one of the best-preserved villages in Spain. Since the opening of the ‘Túnel de Sóller’, Fornalutx has become more accessible and enjoys great popularity

Excursions to Fornalutx

We hiked along the beautiful “Son Blanco” hiking trail to the Mirador Ses Barces viewpoint. After a few meters, we had a BBQ at the Can Llegat olive farm and headed back to Sóller at full speed via Fornalutx.
